Overview

AiTranslate is a lightweight Chrome extension that sends selected text to the Gemini API and shows the translated result inline, without forcing you to open a new tab or window. The extension is designed for developers, writers, and anyone who frequently switches between Bangla, English, and Banglish.

How AiTranslate works

  1. Select any text on a web page.
  2. Right-click and choose AiTranslate.
  3. Pick To Bangla, To English, or Auto.
  4. The extension calls Gemini with your API key and receives the translation.
  5. The original text is temporarily replaced with the translated version plus ✔ / ✖ controls.
  6. Click ✔ to accept the translation or ✖ to restore the original text.

Permissions explained

  • contextMenus – to show the right-click “AiTranslate” options.
  • scripting / content scripts – to modify the selected text inline and show ✔ / ✖ controls.
  • storage – to store your Gemini API key and preferred model in Chrome’s extension storage.
  • host permissions – https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com so that calls to Gemini can be made.

Setup guide

  1. Install AiTranslate from the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click the extension icon to open the settings popup.
  3. Paste your Gemini API key from Google AI Studio and choose a model (e.g. gemini-2.5-flash).
  4. Save settings.
  5. Go to any page, select text, right-click, and start translating.
